False Negative Mold Test Results

drainage & detox open access Jul 18, 2024

Is it possible to get a negative result on a mold test but still experience symptoms of mold illness or mold toxicity?

Absolutely! This scenario can occur when the body becomes overwhelmed and unable to effectively eliminate mold, leading to its retention. Although mycotoxins can be detected in urine tests, if the body's drainage pathways are compromised, mold may not be excreted, and the test will come back negative.

Pro Tip: In such situations, I recommend stress testing prior to doing a mold test. The preferred mycotoxin profile is offered by RealTimeLabs which supports stress testing:

There are two ways to conduct a stress test:

  1. Using a sauna for 10-30 minutes daily for 4 days before collecting a urine sample. 25 minutes of sauna is ideal but not everyone can tolerate it.
  2. Supplementing 250-500mg of liposomal glutathione once or twice daily for a week before urine collection.

Note: Glutathione may not be suitable for individuals who are hypersensitive or intolerant to it. In such cases, using the sauna would be the preferable option. If you don't have access to a sauna, a similar effect can be achieved through any form of exercise that induces sweating.

Many individuals with mold illness experience chronic fatigue and may find it challenging to exercise. In such instances, the sauna (or a hot bath!) remains the optimal choice.
