If I had to pick one herb that can help anyone with GI issues, it would be Mimosa pudica seed. Mimosa pudica is a unique herb that has been used in herbal medicine to treat a variety of ailments for thousands of years. The roots, leaves, and stem of Mimosa pudica have long been used to treat anxiety, wound healing, and a variety of other ailments.
The seed, in particular, is an important element of the plant when it comes to removing pathogens (parasites, fungi, bacteria) and toxins (mold, heavy metals, pesticides, etc.) from the gut. Mimosa pudica seed develops a sticky gel when exposed to fluids. This functions as a gut scrubber, removing pathogenic bacteria, parasites, biofilms, and toxins from the gut. Because it is a soluble fiber with mucilaginous qualities it helps move the bowels which decreases intestinal buildup.
Every client I encounter with persistent GI issues has some type of dysbiosis (imbalances caused by parasites, fungi, and/or bacteria overgrowth). Pathogens form biofilms AKA pathogen colonies. Biofilms are alive and have a complex social structure that protects them from the immune system as well as antimicrobials and antibiotics while allowing them to grow.
Thick, dense, and resistant biofilm formation is very common in IBD and IBS. One of the key reasons why gut imbalances are so difficult to treat is biofilms. Pathogens thrive in the presence of biofilms. When taking Mimosa pudica seed, it’s not uncommon to notice biofilms and parasites in the stool, among other things. Mimosa pudica seed smothers many types of parasites. Parasites are the largest of pathogens and hold at least 6-8 times their weight in other pathogens and toxins. In a few cases, I’ve used Mimosa pudica seed alone and in high doses to effectively treat clients with stubborn and persistent GI issues. It’s truly one of a kind.
You might be wondering how you can get the benefits of Mimosa pudica seed. I’ve tried a variety of Mimosa pudica seed supplements but owing to their effectiveness, there are only two that I would recommend and use with clients.
Mimosa pudica seed capsules can be swallowed whole or broken open for people who have difficulty swallowing. You can mix the powder with a little maple syrup, olive oil, or avocado oil because the seeds are fat-soluble. They’re also safe for kids, and I use them all the time when creating detox protocols for them.
